1953 single version: Blue Jays - White Cliffs Of Dover
Переглядів 618День тому
This is not a commonly-heard track, because a different recording by the group (the one with the organ intro ua-cam.com/video/0Zp-ZAxNgto/v-deo.html ) became the standard reissue version over the decades that followed. The song’s hopeful lyric about wartime England had been composed in 1941 before America entered the war and turned into a major U.S. hit in early ‘42, spending five weeks at #1 o...
1953 Rufus Thomas - Bear Cat
Переглядів 825День тому
A full decade prior to his famous R&B/Pop crossover hit “Walking The Dog,” Rufus made his first appearance on the national record charts with this answer to Willie Mae Thornton’s original chart-topping “Hound Dog” recording. While the early-pressing label scan shown above includes “The answer to Hound Dog” above the title, that was removed in later pressings following a legal action by Don Robe...
1906 Billy Murray - The Grand Old Rag (aka You’re A Grand Old Flag)
Переглядів 1,9 тис.14 днів тому
This famous tribute to the Red, White & Blue was written by George M. Cohan for his 1906 stage musical “George Washington, Jr.” with “Grand Old Rag” being the original title and lyric. It was changed soon after to “Grand Old Flag,” but not until after Billy Murray had recorded this first release of the song. Переглядів 1,4 тис.21 день тому
Though artist-billed Wynn was the singer on this 1946 ‘party record,’ it was the song’s composer Benny Bell who would receive artist credit on the famous 1975 reissue which became a national novelty hit due to its exposure by Dr. Demento. Ive got to wonder, if this was peak musical entertainment 100 years ago, what is music going to sound like 100 years from now?
Born and raised in mob city, CHICAGO. I'm 32 now but since a little kid. I've always been obsessed with oldies and old music. As i grew, and got older. I got into more old music. My wife tells me i got an old soul. Im a Mexican/American raised in the hood of south side Chicago. I'm a musician that always loves sports... mafia stuff even gaming and gardening lol... but yeah, when i listen to this type of music i get this old nostalgic feeling from old Chicago. Its strange like if i was there in the past. I can't even explain it.
So cool when you can hear Alan Reuss and Jess Stacy hammering away!
Que felizmente siento L escuchar esta melodía pero saben porque? Porque nací precisamente en 1941 y aquí sigo desde mi México querido !!!!!
Recorded on June 25, 1954.
I love this song!! I wasn't born until 1958, and as much as I loved the music of my own youth, I undoubtedly missed the greatest ever music era!
its always raining in the city of Umburgh...
Then we would break dance also 😁
Roller skating 😁
This is a jaunty song, but a few years after this version was recorded the same tune was used in a tense scene of murder in the famous film noir of 1944, “Double Indemnity”.
People today won’t recognize the brand names that Helen sings about as she’s smugly criticizing Tangerine from another woman’s point of view.
The more videos i check on your channel, the more i want to hear. Excellent sound qualities ✨
My ass on the way to main
I have been told one of the worst singing voices of her time of her time
Insert Donald Duck here
"Everything is rose now." Dát moet een geweldige tijd zijn geweest...
Leuk hoor.
Zeitgeist of depression era!! Musical perfection
Ironically, no one went after Chuck Berry for using the crux of the song for his song, "C'Est La Vie (You Never Can Tell)".
This is cool, I only knew Sarah Vaughan’s 1959 record with Quincy Jones
No
I feel I’m reincarnated I may have been a young man in the 1920s. This song haunts me. I may not have been in Jay Gatsby’s class but I may have attended similar parties
I love this tune. It's almost silly.
Based on Tchaikovsky's Symphony No 6 "Pathetique".
I have this old record and remember playing it over and over when I was a child
This was rerecorded back in the 1960's by someone else. But I can not find it anywhere .
The only charted version (but only just a Bubbling Under single) was a late-summer 1961 release by Bob Beckham, best-known for his 1959 hit "Just As Much As Ever." I don't see it posted anywhere online, however.
The song feels me...............
Oh........ I FELT STEADY!
Thank you generalfieldmarshal rommel, for taking me to this wonderful music❤
Perfecto balanceo de swing!!!!!!!
John Hammond encouraged Benny Goodman to hire Charlie Christian
Nice original version. The G- Cleffs made a great version of this beautiful song in 1961.
June Valli also made a good version in 1954.
I love my home town where my heart is
😊😊😊😊 well this brings me back memories 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Wow
Thanks for setting up these chronology playlists. They're wonderful to listen to, and its interesting to listen to the 'seasonal' tunes in context
Glad you like them! 🎵
Good singer.....awful band .... Elvis on this one.
I love the Brown & Roach album of the same name, but I'm glad UA-cam also led me to this great side!
Almost all Elvis covers were not as good as originals......This one though , Elvis version much better....Mr. Hart has the cornball , over the over top stylings of the era like Jolson and Cantor....The rolling R's.... '' are you sorry we drrrrrrrifted apart ? ''
It sounds just as great today. I can't get it out of my head, I look at my wife of 68 years and I want to sing it to her, She pushes me away with a smile, Hell I'm 93.
Kinda fun making up different lyrics to songs 😂
Amusing 😂
Still sounds great, 89 years ago. Sad how the music has changed.
My folks had this on a Decca 78. Before I got into rock - I would listen to their stations and records. I STILL love Easy Listening music as well as the artists of that genre and era.
The Robbins Music Corporation, an ASCAP publisher member, published this song..
Mills Music, Inc.,an ASCAP publisher member, published this song. I like Frank Sinatra s version of this song the best.
The Famous Music Corporation, an ASCAP publisher member, published this song.
Saunders Publications, Inc.,an ASCAP publisher member, published this song.
SiriusXM used to play this song all of the time, but I never caught the name of it. It wasn't until tonight watching "The Holdovers" that I finally found it.
I love songs from ASCAP publisher members, such as the Leeds Music Corporation and the Pickwick Music Corporation..
When the world goes wrong, as it's bound to do And you've broken Dan Cupid's bow And you long for the girl you used to love the maid of the long ago Why light your pipe, bid sorrow avaunt, Blow the smoke from your altar of dreams And wreathe the face of your dream-girl there The love that is just what it seems The girl of my dreams is the sweetest girl Of all the girls I know Each sweet co-ed like a rainbow trail Fades in the after glow The blue of her eyes and the gold of her hair Are a blend of the western sky And the moonlight beams On the girl of my dreams She's the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi BTW, looks like they misspelled Consentida on the record
